Overview
As a network, we work with partners in the nonprofit and public sectors to advance conservation finance solutions.
We partner with the Center for Business and the Environment at Yale University to maintain and supply content to CFN’s web page, as well as organize our Conservation Finance Boot Camp. Through our partnership with the Department of Defense, we help participants in the Sentinel Landscape Initiative to develop strategies to fund and finance landscape-scale conservation.
Similarly, we work with the US Forest Service’s Cooperative Forestry Program to equip its state coordinators and partners with information about promising ways to fund and finance forest protection and stewardship on private forestland.
International Land Conservation Network
We share information about conservation finance with the International Land Conservation Network and assist in their training efforts, including work with the European Land Conservation Network’s Conservation Finance Accelerator.
The International Land Conservation Network (ILCN), a US-based global project of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, connects civic and private organizations, land trusts, and individuals. Founded in 2014, it aims to accelerate the protection of land and water resources by fostering international collaboration, sharing best practices, and building capacity for voluntary conservation. The network concentrates on conservation finance, law and policy, organization and governance, land stewardship, and large landscape conservation. It facilitates peer learning through conferences (e.g., the Global Congress, an e-newsletter and resources like the ILCN Conservation Innovation Award.

We work with the Nicholas Institute to investigate successful strategies for increasing private investment in nature-based solutions.
The Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University accelerates solutions to critical energy and environmental challenges, advancing a more just, resilient, and sustainable world. The Nicholas Institute conducts and supports actionable research and undertakes sustained engagement with policymakers, businesses, and communities – in addition to delivering transformative educational experiences to empower future leaders. The Nicholas Institute’s work is aligned with the Duke Climate Commitment, which unites the university’s education, research, operations, and external engagement missions to address climate challenges.

We work with the Cooperative Forestry Program to speed learning among its state coordinators about funding and financing of forest protection and stewardship.
The Cooperative Forestry unit of the USDA Forest Service works closely with partners to enhance and maintain forests across watersheds and ecosystems, both on private and public land, for the benefits they provide to the American people. Cooperative Forestry delivers its work through states, local governments, other federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and other partners leveraging additional resources and fueling innovation.

Sentinel Landscapes
We help those involved in the Sentinel Landscapes program understand innovative strategies for funding and financing their landscape conservation and military readiness objectives.
The Sentinel Landscapes Partnership is a coalition of federal agencies, state and local governments, and non-governmental organizations that work with willing landowners and land managers to advance sustainable land use practices around military installations and ranges. Founded in 2013, the partnership aligns the objectives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, Department of the Interior, and Federal Emergency Management Agency to strengthen military readiness, conserve natural resources, bolster agriculture and forestry economies, increase public access to outdoor recreation, and enhance landscape resilience.
For more information on this program, please contact Katie Michels, CFN Director of Partnerships.

and the Environment
We work with the Yale Center for Business and the Environment to put on events and work with graduate students to develop case studies and other educational materials on conservation finance.
Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) provides a collaborative platform for ideating, incubating, and launching innovative action at the intersection of business and the environment. The center joins two world-renowned graduate schools—the Yale School of Management and the Yale School of the Environment—together with an active network of leaders in sustainability.
By equipping our growing network with interdisciplinary skills and collaborative opportunities, we are building pathways to help solve the greatest challenges facing the human and natural systems upon which we all rely.
