Helping US Forest Service Cooperative Forestry Practitioners Access Increased Public Funding and Explore Innovative Conservation Finance
A Conservation Finance Technical Assistance Partnership with U.S. Forest Service Cooperative Forestry Program
In partnership with the USFS Cooperative Forestry program, CFN is working to increase awareness and utilization by public and nonprofit conservation practitioners of increased public funding and innovative sources of private funding for conservation of private forestland. Through this partnership, we are distilling effective uses of increased US Forest Service funding, including, for example, through the Inflation Reduction Act, and innovative ways to use private funding to match USFS investments. We are currently working with USFS staff and their partners on issues such as:
- Documenting creative funding match for the Forest Legacy Program, Forest Stewardship, and other Cooperative Forestry Programs.
- Making sense of the Carbon Markets, including if and under what conditions revenue from carbon credits may be used as match for Forest Legacy grants.
- Increasing small landowner participation in funding opportunities.
- Increasing awareness and capacity of tribal entities to access federal USFS programs.
