Protecting Marine Reserves: Public-Private Partnerships in Cuba’s Gardens of the Queen
Please join the Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) for the 2015-2016 season of Nature’s Returns: Investing in Ecosystem Services. Filippo Invernizzi (Co-Owner of Avalon Cuban Fishing Centers) and Dan Whittle (Senior Director of EDF’s Cuba Program) will discuss the conservation finance model that has resulted in the successful protection of Jardines de La Reina, the “Crown Jewel of Cuba’s Coral Reefs”, for over two decades. Contextualized by the legal and political situation in Cuba, this webinar will offer key insights related to Avalon’s unique business model, investment structure, and the role of private-public partnerships for financing the conservation of these pristine ecosystems. Given its outstanding success, this model is being now implemented in six other marine reserves in Cuba, as well as in Ecuador and Brazil.
The free online event will last one hour and is open to the public. Email invitations for following Nature's Returns webinars will be sent as the dates approach. Visit the CBEY website for up-to-date information regarding these and other events.
